National Conference on Polar Sciences

The National Conference on Polar Sciences (NCPS) has grown significantly over the years, with successful editions held in 2017, 2019, and 2023. These events have brought together young researchers and experts from across India to discuss scientific advancements, operational challenges and potential collaborations in the Arctic, Antarctic, Southern Ocean, and Himalayan regions. The most recent NCPS in 2023 saw remarkable participation, attracting over 550 attendees and around 270 selected abstracts, including contributions from approximately 130 young polar researchers.

The NCPS-2025 aims to provide a dynamic platform for scientists, early-career researchers, and students to share their latest research, exchange ideas, networking and explore innovative approaches in polar and cryosphere studies. The conference encourages interdisciplinary discussions, promotes collaboration, and deepens the understanding of the polar regions’ critical role in the global climate system. Additionally, it offers young researchers a unique opportunity to engage with leading scientists and strengthen the scientific community’s efforts to address pressing challenges in polar science.

Young Polar Scientist Meet (YPSM)

The Young Polar Scientist Meet (YPSM) will provide young researchers with a platform to engage with nationally and internationally renowned polar experts. This event aims to enhance their scientific skills and build a national interdisciplinary research network by connecting them with peers and senior polar scientists.

Eligibility: YPSM is open to early-career researchers below the age of 35 (as of March 31, 2025). Eligible participants include PhD students or post-PhD professionals within 5 years of their doctoral degree award.

All YPSM participants are encouraged to present posters. Based on the novelty of their research and quality of poster presentation, selected young researchers will be invited to deliver 5-minute flash talks. The Best Young Polar Scientist Award will recognize outstanding contributions in both oral and poster presentations.

Open Science Conference (OSC)

The open science conference will feature plenary lectures, invited keynote lectures, and contributed oral/poster presentations organised across multiple sessions and themes.
